Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a form of martial arts that originated in China a few hundred years ago. Although first developed as a religious or mystical exercise to put oneself in harmony with the "universal life force", its value as a low-level therapeutic exercise regimen for strength and balance is now becoming widely accepted.
Tai Chi uses slow, rhythmic, methodical movements to improve balance, increase strength, improve cardiovascular function, and increase overall healing times. It can be used with all age groups, but is especially effective in the elderly population because of its ease of performance and lack of strenuousness.
Tai Chi has demonstrated a significant benefit in fall reduction for the elderly population and improved walking patterns.
